May 16th — Statistic #11

From Lyra’s 2022 State of Workforce Mental Health Survey Report:

“In 2020, 45% of employees said the mental health care they received that year was not fully covered by their employer. Just 19% said this was the case in 2021.”

My Thoughts and Comments:

This is certainly good news for employees. Research estimates are that approximately 70% of employees today live paycheck to paycheck. When money is tight, employees will tend not to get treatment because it comes with yet another payment they need to make when the cash is already stretched way to thin.

It is well established that employees experiencing mental illness are a considerable drag on the organization’s bottom line. Employee mental illness costs employers both directly and indirectly. Fully funding employee treatment is money well spent by employers in my view.
