May 3rd — Statistic #2

From Lyra’s 2022 State of Workforce Mental Health Survey Report:

84% of the workers responding to the survey reported experiencing at least one mental health challenge in the past year. The challenges were listed as stress, burnout and diagnosable mental illnesses such as depression, anxiety, bi-polar disorder and PTSD.

My Thoughts and Comments:

This high of a percentage makes sense given the many ways the human psyche could have been impacted and challenged in late 2021. In some ways, I am surprised the percentage is not higher. Uncertain times can be a real challenge for the human psyche.

This high a percentage indicates to me why employers must address workplace mental health in a comprehensive manner. This comprehensive approach must include mental wellness (aka mental wellbeing, positive mental health), psychological/psychosocial distress and, of course, mental ill-health or mental illness. The wise employer today will address the full spectrum of employee mental health needs.
