The Psychosocial Edge Tip #01

In his book The Advantage, Patrick Lencioni writes: “Any organization that wants to maximize its success must come to embody two basic qualities: it must be smart and it must be healthy”

Lencioni describes being smart as being “good at the classic fundamentals of business.” The problem with just being smart today is related to the Internet making it pretty easy for competitors to simply copy each other’s basic business fundamentals. No competitive advantage here.

The healthy organization is described by Lencioni as being an organization with “minimal politics and confusion, high degrees of morale and productivity and very low turnover of good employees.” All of these qualities relate to the organization’s culture and to its employees. Employees and culture are two things a competitor can never copy. They are unique to each organization.

Creating a healthy, employee friendly organization and optimizing the employee experience give an organization a competitive advantage. These are two things I specialize in. As a Master level social worker, I operate through the psychosocial lens. Incorporating a psychosocial edge contributes to both the healthy organization and the employee experience.

Having a psychosocial edge is a competitive advantage.
